Director/Vice President of Development
Position Summary: Leadership position for a skilled fundraising professional with a proven record of success and an interest in helping UFC fulfill its strategic vision for growth. The Director/VP Development is responsible for creating a diverse fundraising strategy to raise $5 million to $6 million per year. The position oversees all fundraising including major gifts, events, foundation and corporate giving, government grants, annual giving, in-kind solicitations, and marketing/communications including website, newsletter and annual report. The Director/VP Development reports to UFC’s President.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Provide leadership for the organization’s efforts to raise $5 to $6 million per year.
- Participate as a member of the senior management team to formulate and implement policies and plans that meet UFC’s short- and long-term objectives.
- Manage a department of three including Foundation/Corporate Giving Manager, Annual Giving Manager, and Special Events/Volunteer Coordinator and direct all activities therein.
- Provide leadership and support to the Development Committee of the Board.
- In collaboration with the organization’s President, create, manage and obtain support for the annual development plan. Also responsible for creating and managing a departmental budget.
- Manage marketing and communications functions to construct the appropriate image for UFC, develop ties with the community, and increase opportunities for engagement with the organization.
- Develop deep understanding of institutional history and programs. Identify and articulate specific organizational needs, which can be expressed as funding priorities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key funders, Board members, volunteers, and others.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. A minimum of 5-7 years of directly related, progressively responsible work experience with a proven record of leadership – including management of a development department, successful cultivation and solicitation of large gifts, and a demonstrated working knowledge of all areas of fundraising with particular emphasis on major gifts. Exemplary written/verbal communication skills are required, as is a good sense of humor. Title and salary level commensurate with experience.

clinical program supervisor
Position Summary: The Clinical Program Supervisor will work closely with the TLP Director in establishing and achieving measurable program goals through supervision of the counseling staff and the provision of outstanding social service programming.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Provide individual and group supervision of licensed and unlicensed Master’s level staff members and MSW interns. Provide administrative and clinical supervision, both individual and group, to a staff of counselors who provide case management, crisis intervention and other supportive services to TLP residents.
- Guide and support counseling staff with respect to individual cases, with particular attention to problematic cases towards resolution.
- Provide training, consultation and feedback to counseling staff on their assessment, treatment planning, case management, progress reports, evaluations, and outcomes for TLP participants.
- Oversee the professional development of counseling staff to include appropriate in-house training and referring staff to needed trainings within and outside of UFC.
- Work collaboratively with staff to ensure that client documentation is appropriate, accurate and submitted within the established time frame.
- Consult and collaborate with the on-site mental health consultants on the needs and progress of TLP youth.
- Coordinate with Parenting Instructor to provide quality services and support to parents at two sites.
- Maintain and uphold ethical practices especially as it pertains to confidentiality concerns.
- Collaborate with program staff on the provision of life skills classes, support group facilitation, and special events and activities at all seven TLP sites and at permanent housing site in Rancho Dominguez.
- Expand resource referral sources to address the mental and physical health needs of program participants.
- Interface with related community agencies such as DCFS, substance abuse programs, public health agencies etc. and attends meetings as scheduled and assigned.
- Provide consultation with UFC Education department on training modules and crisis-orientated cases.
Qualifications:
- LCSW with 3+ years experience in appropriate and relevant setting, plus 2+ years post licensed clinical and management supervisory experience.
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary service team.
- An understanding and sensitivity to issues concerning former foster care youth from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Excellent knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues.
- Strong commitment and adherence to Social Work Code of Ethics especially as they pertain to confidentiality concerns.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving and crisis intervention skills.
- Extensive travel in L.A. County required. Must have valid CDL and an insured and operational vehicle.

Property Management/Housing Coordinator (PMHC)
Position Summary: The Property Management/Housing Coordinator (PMHC) for UFC oversees the operations, maintenance and resident accountability for the 10 properties under the control of UFC and is responsible for the organization’s outreach to affordable housing developers, leasing agents and others. The PMHC will report to and work closely with the Director of Transitional Living Programs in an effort to expand TLP services as part of the organization’s strategic plan for growth.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Executes property management and housing strategies and initiatives in accordance with UFC established goals and objectives.
- Represents the interest of UFC and manages strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders regarding housing policy concerns and outreach efforts.
- Ensures that all property management personnel are fully supported, trained, and embraces UFC’s vision and mission to achieve and maintain excellence in all housing and facilities operations.
- Supervises move-in and move-out procedures for the TLP sites currently in Whittier and Inglewood. Ensures apartment readiness for new youth entering the program.
- Assesses the condition of the properties and communicates regularly with the DCFS and property management staff including resident managers regarding the on-going property needs and resident concerns.
- Develops and monitors budgets for property management. Maintains spreadsheets of individual rental payment histories.
- Collaborates with the program staff (Advocacy Counselors) with respect to the youths’ transition from the TLP into their own apartment. Maintains and expand resource list of housing options for exiting youth.
- Develop relationships with potential landlords of apartment sites in affordable and desirable areas to which youth could ultimately transition from the TLP.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred. 3-5 years of experience in property management or related field. Working knowledge of Fair Housing Law; Experience with Section 8 and other government funding sources. Relevant experience with master leasing and apartment acquisition. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills. An understanding and sensitivity to the concerns affecting former foster youth and the challenges they face. Possesses a willingness to engage on youths’ behalves with respect to their housing needs. Experience with and appreciation of working with a diverse group of staff and youth. Extensive travel in L.A. County required. Must have valid California Driver’s License and an insured and operational vehicle.

advocacy counselor
Position Summary: The Advocacy Counselor (AC) provides case-management, counseling and crisis intervention services to former foster youth in a residential setting. The AC is responsible for promoting personal growth, independence, responsibility and accountability with the goal of the youth attaining self-sufficiency.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Support and guide the residents while maintaining an advisory relationship based on trust and respect.
- Work closely with the Intake Coordinator during the application of potential candidates.
- Facilitate the move-in procedure including completing paperwork and coordinating with Property Management regarding apartment readiness.
- Conduct needs assessments, coordinate resource referrals and connect youth to services through effective case management.
- Meet one-on-one with residents on caseload on a weekly basis to discuss goals related to career, education, mental/physical health and basic life skills.
- Work with assigned residents to develop a thorough case plan within the required time frame.
- Provide regular feedback to residents regarding their progress with respect to their case plan.
- Complete detailed case notes in a timely manner.
- Work closely with Property Management team to ensure that the residents assigned to them are paying rent, maintaining their apartments and adhering to all program rules.
- Provide crisis intervention assistance and personal counseling as needed.
- Attend community building activities as part of establishing and maintaining relationships with Pathways youth.
- Meet weekly with Clinical Supervisor to discuss case planning, progress with residents and any problematic cases.
- Guide residents through the transition from the program assisting them with developing a proper exit plan into a permanent housing situation.
- Serve as a team member willing to collaborate and cooperate with other program staff with youth cases, program activities and with any concern that may arise.
Qualifications:
- MSW or related degree with 3+ years post-graduate experience in appropriate and relevant setting.
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary service team.
- An understanding and sensitivity to issues concerning former foster care youth from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

In-Home Tutor
Position Description: Tutors will work with middle and high school students in UFC’s College Readiness Program in need of academic assistance. All tutoring will take place in a one-on-one environment in the student’s home or at a nearby location (school, public library). Tutors will need to be willing to service the Los Angeles County area, have reliable transportation, and a flexible schedule. Tutors work from 2-15 hours a week. Tutorial hours generally take place Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 4:00pm and 9:00pm.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Tutor middle and high school students in at least one of the following areas: language arts, math, science, history, Spanish, and/or more.
- Schedule all tutoring sessions by contacting the students’ guardians and finding a mutually agreeable time.
- Maintain positive relationships and ongoing communications with both the students and guardians.
- Submit weekly progress reports to both guardians and to UFC staff.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of an Associate’s Degree OR 3 years tutoring experience.
- 1 year tutoring experience required; proficiency in the area in which he/she plans to tutor and the ability to convey that knowledge clearly via spoken and written word; and the ability to motivate students.
- High level of commitment; Passing of a criminal background check; and character references.
