Foster Youth Attend College Within Reach at Loyola Marymount University
On Saturday, October 20 hundreds of middle and high school aged foster
youth, caregivers and service providers attended this full day of college
preparatory activities. Screenwriter and former foster youth, Antwone
Fisher, delivered the welcome address and youth participated in workshops
foucsing on the steps of high school academic planning, choosing a school,
paying for college and more. The day also showcased services and resources
specifically available for foster youth during a lunchtime resource
fair. |

Pathways Alumni Attend 2nd Annual Alumni Retreat
Many of UFC's recent Pathways graduates attended the retreat, joining
the alumni services component of Pathways. Held on September 28-29 in
Long Beach, participants took part in a variety of activities including
team building exercises, self-reflection activities, and workshops led
by LifeWorks Enterprises. A major benefit of this event is the opportunity
that alumni have to refine the skills needed to maintain their independence
and reconnect with Pathways. |

Cultural Adventure Camp held for College Readiness Students
UFC's CRP kicked of the school year in September with a full day
of cultural adventure activities at Global Groove in Santa Monica. Youth
participated in a variety of events including West African drumming,
Flamenco dancing, Brazilian fight-dancing, and magic, acting and drum-making
activities. |

Fourteen Youth Graduate from Pathways Transitional Living Program
On June 21, friends and family of the graduates enjoyed a video presentation
and a percussionist performance by a current Pathways resident. Several
graduates were acknowledged for their accomplishments in education,
career development, rent payment, receptivity, youth leadership and
personal achievement. Pathways graduates were also given an opportunity
to speak about experiences in the program and their transition to independence.
IKEA graciously awarded each graduate with a $200 gift card to help
furnish and decorate their new apartment. |

Pathways 4th Annual Empowerment Retreat
held at Camp Pali
In early June, Pathways youth attended this weekend retreat and participated
in community building exercises, recreational activities and a talent
show. Guest speaker, Tony Magee led a variety of self-exploration activities
during the weekend which inspired the youth to think differently about
themselves and their life experiences. |

Warner Bros.' L.A. Premiere of No Reservations Benefits UFC
Over 400 UFC board members, youth, and supporters attended the screening
and reception held at the Steven J. Ross Theatre on the Warner Bros.
studio lot. Foster youth from UFC's programs were thrilled to be in
attendance and enjoyed the film, written by UFC Board Member, Carol
Fuchs. |

Annual Celebration Graduation Event Held at
Walt Disney Concert Hall
Over 800 friends, family members, dignitaries and celebrities attended
the June 3 event to celebrate the academic achievements of over 150
foster youth. Youth participating in the event were rewarded with over
$675,000 in scholarships. UFC presented over $435,000 in special sponsorships
to a class of 30 students. Tommy Davidson served as MC and special guest
speakers included Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Michael Ealy, Carl Lewis,
two former Celebration graduates and a special performance by David
Hines. |

Nearly
$200,000 Raised for UFC at the 6th Annual Vintage Hollywood Event
Over 250 UFC supporters attended the event at the home of Nancy Daly
Riordan, UFC Founder and Richard Riordan, former LA Mayor. Guests enjoyed
fine wine and gourmet dining from premiere wineries and LA's hottest
restaurants. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in silent
and live auctions featuring incredible dining and fine wine packages. |

raises over $1.85 million from the
Brass Ring Awards Dinner
Several hundred guests were in attendance on Thursday, April
19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel to honor Lynda & Stewart Resnick
and Linda Daly (Read
The Resnicks' introduction & speech ;
Read Linda Daly's speech). Norman Lear and Nancy Daly Riordan
presented the honorees with the Brass Ring Award for their commitment
to helping disadvantaged youth not only in our community but across
the globe.
D.L. Hughely served as the host of the evening and
special guest speakers included Angela Bassett, Mayor Antonio
Villaraigosa and UFC Sponsorship Recipient, Patrice Young.
Attendees, including First Lady Maria Shriver, enjoyed dinner,
a program and live auction which raised nearly $400,000 for
UFC’s programs. The live auction included $200,000
worth of UFC College Sponsorships to support foster youth
attending 4-year colleges.

Pathways Youth Celebrate Reach Competition
Ten Pathways youth were celebrated for reaching beyond their
comfort zone to attain personal achievement. They were rewarded with
a "Progressive Dinner Tour" throughout Los Angeles, which
included stops at Gladstone's in Malibu and The Geisha House in Hollywood. |

Readiness Program Celebrates New Year
Nearly fifty CRP students, family
members, volunteers and staff gathered at Ambiente restaurant in
Alhambra to celebrate the New Year with their UFC family. After enjoying
lunch, attendees got to know each other through interactive icebreakers. |
