Other UFC Events
Holiday parties, youth retreats, film premieres and more.
UFC benefits from movie premieres, boutique shopping events, and a variety of other occasions by partnering with companies committed to giving back.
Events for our youth held throughout the year are essential to UFC’s philosophy of working with foster youth to develop familial and communal bonds among each other, UFC staff, and our community as a whole.
Past Events
Annual Pathways Christmas Eve
250 youth, alumni, board members, and staff gathered at McCormick & Schmick's for a heartfelt evening of fun, food, friends and family togetherness. Dinner included a turkey carving station, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, chicken pot pies and seasonal veggies, as well as a spread of various desserts. Youth enjoyed the karaoke room and raffle for two iPads and children participated in arts and crafts. Youth, alumni and their children were all provided with various gifts including gift cards and "The Dark Knight Rises" dvd's. The most important part of the evening is the feeling of family and unity our program youth experience during the holidays but also throughout the year.
College Readiness Holiday Party
College Readiness staff members and program youth gathered with their families at Rosa Mexicana for some delicious Mexican food, honors, awards and laughs at their annual holiday party. Congrats to all of the students for a great semester!
Pathways Spring Planting and BBQ
On Saturday, March 24 volunteers, board and community members gathered at Pathways in Whittier to plant for spring. Working with our Pathways residents, volunteers dug, cleared and planted blueberries, cucumbers and squash, as well as flowers and low-maintenance shrubs. The day included garden crafts, tours, and a delicious Greek-themed BBQ lunch prepared by celebrity chefs Jewels and Jill Elmore and our youth. Thanks to everyone who participated in this great day!
Grand Opening of The Palace
UFC staff, board members and youth, project partners, community residents and new tenants came together to celebrate the grand opening of The Palace, UFC's newest housing site in Long Beach. Guests enjoyed touring the property, meeting new residents and some of our Pathways alumni. The facility is comprised of thirteen studio apartments for former foster youth in UFC's Pathways Transitional Living Program, as well as a manager's unit, common areas, offices for program services, and retail space. The renovation of the historic Palace Hotel in Long Beach was made possible through a public/private partnership between United Friends of the Children, LINC Housing, The Long Beach Housing Development Company, and the City of Long Beach.

Pathways Supports Big Sunday
Pathways youth, staff and volunteers joined forces with REI and the LA Conservation Corps to help clean up Kenneth Hahn Park for this year’s Big Sunday community service day on May 15. The group had a great time together enjoying some fresh air as they cleared up invasive grass and planted rescued oaks.
Phil Kent Visits Pathways
Brass Ring honoree Phil Kent headed out to UFC's Pathways Transitional Housing site in Whittier to learn about the program and tour the facility. In April, Mr. Kent and Bruce Rosenblum, President of Warner Bros. Television Group, met with UFC President Polly Williams, Board Chair Wendy Meyer, Housing Director Roshe Malakuti and some of the Pathways program youth. He learned about the challenges they have faced and how Pathways has helped them overcome many obstacles in their lives.
