Pathways youth, staff and volunteers joined forces with REI and the LA Conservation Corps to help clean up Kenneth Hahn Park for this year’s Big Sunday community service day on May 15. The group had a great time together enjoying some fresh air as they cleared up invasive grass and planted rescued oaks.

Brass Ring honoree Phil Kent headed out to UFC's Pathways Transitional Housing site in Whittier to learn about the program and tour the facility.  In April, Mr. Kent and Bruce Rosenblum, President of Warner Bros. Television Group, met with UFC President Polly Williams, Board Chair Wendy Meyer, Housing Director Roshe Malakuti and some of the Pathways program youth.  He learned about the challenges they have faced and how Pathways has helped them overcome many obstacles in their lives.

College Sponsorship students from across the United States gathered in the UFC offices for a winter break lunch and catch-up session. A rousing game of holiday charades was the highlight of this year's event.

Committed to their civic responsibility, College Readiness students volunteered at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank labeling, packing and sorting food.  Youth enjoyed a presentation on the work the food bank does in the community and how volunteering can positively affect the lives of those in need.

Held at the Conga Room for the first time, the Pathways Christmas Eve Celebration and Alumni Reunion was filled with love, laughter and good times. Pathways residents and alumni, as well as family members, UFC board members, volunteers and staff enjoyed reconnecting with each other and sharing a meal together on Christmas Eve.  Upon arrival, guests walked the "red carpet" at the Conga Room and enjoyed dinner by Wolfgang Puck Catering.  Later in the evening, Pathways youth and alumni were presented with Target gift cards from Wendy and Barry Meyer and spent some time on the dance floor with music provided by Jake Smith at Golden State DJ's.

At Smitty's Grill in Pasadena, sponsorship students, alumni and staff caught up with friends from orientation, debriefed about midterms and roomates, and shared a delightful holiday meal. The opportunity of community is one of the greatest assests of the Sponsorship Program and it grows each time students get together.
