UFC Education Programs
We believe that current dismal outcomes for foster kids relative to education can be changed.
Poor educational outcomes are a major factor in the lack of success foster youth experience in their transition out of care. By preparing more foster youth to graduate from high school (College Readiness) and attend and graduate from four-year colleges (College Sponsorship), UFC is dramatically increasing their chances for success.
Enrichment Activities
College Readiness students are offered a wide range of opportunities to cultivate interests in a variety of areas, while helping them to develop a clear vision of who they are and what they want to be. Highlights include:
Washington D.C. Experience
College Readiness middle school students experienced five action-packed days in Washington DC through the generous support of Close Up Programs. This unique opportunity provided students with enriching, once-in-a-lifetime experiences that included visits to the White House, participation in mock Congress, visits to the major monuments in the National Mall and the Holocaust Memorial. Day trips to both Jamestown and Williamsburg gave students a glimpse of American History as they learned what colonial life was like.
College Prep Camp
A four day college prep camp specifically designed for foster youth at San Jose State University provided College Readiness high school students with a hands-on college experience.
