Preparing Foster Youth for Independence

UFC Housing Programs

We believe that with the proper support and guidance, former foster youth can make a successful transition to adulthood.

It doesn’t happen magically when they turn 18. However, we have a unique opportunity and, in fact, a responsibility to provide foster youth ages 18-23 with the support that will allow them to prepare for independence. In Pathways, we do this by surrounding them with positive role models, creating enduring relationships, challenging them to better themselves and providing them with the safety net of a service-enriched transitional living program.

Program Events

Pathways Program events are a vital component of the program, in helping youth to develop and mature emotionally and socially.

Held throughout the year, these events are essential to UFC’s philosophy of working with foster youth to develop familial and communal bonds among each other, UFC staff and board members, and our community as a whole.

HOLIDAY GATHERINGS

An important tradition at UFC and the closest some of our youth have to a family holiday gathering, Pathways December Holiday Celebration and Alumni Reunion brings together over 200 residents, alumni, staff, volunteers and board members to share the spirit of the holiday season each year. Other annual holiday events include Easter, Halloween and Thanksgiving — all help to bring about a sense of community and solidarity among our current residents, our Pathways alumni, staff, volunteers and board members.

GRADUATION

Each June, UFC holds an annual graduation event honoring Pathways graduates. Families and friends of the new alumni, current residents and UFC staff and board members come together for a heartfelt ceremony which often includes inspirational remarks from former graduates, special performances and awards distributed for Personal Achievement and Leadership.

EMPOWERMENT RETREAT

This weekend-long retreat is designed for Pathways residents to engage in experiences outside of their comfort zone. Typically held in the mountains, youth are exposed to a new environment which provides them with a new perspective and understanding of nature. Special guest speakers lead a variety of self-exploration activities workshops throughout the weekend, all designed to help youth overcome obstacles and strive for their goals.
