Grants Writer

Part-time, Non-Exempt

The Grant Writer (GW) will work under the supervision of the Manager-Institutional Giving (MIG) to research and complete private grant applications and reports. The GW will play an important role in the grants management function of UFC’s public revenue strategy by attending proposers’ conferences, completing RFP/LOI responses, and drafting reports. The GW will work across departments to ensure accuracy of project descriptions, outcomes data, and proposed objectives, milestones, and outputs. The GW will also ensure grant and contract compliance which will require accurate and timely data entry in SalesForce and MSTeams.

 

The GW will also collaborate with the Director – Institutional Giving and other members of the development team on issues related to program and database management. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

    Private Grants and Foundations

    • Writing and editing grant proposals, funder updates and grant reports, and other pitch materials that promote our organizations’ programs, campaigns and values;
    • Researching and identifying foundation and donor prospects, and helping to maintain the information in our central database;
    • Coordinate pre-application phase for assigned projects including setting up checklists, timelines, recurring meetings and keeping application team on track for successful application, drafting and reviewing required grant application administrative components, editing, and coordinating with UFC staff on additional support as needed
    • Keep accurate records of identified opportunities, outreach, tracking status, progress and deadlines on a daily basis.
    • Research and apply for new and renewal funding opportunities
    • Assist in managing funder relationships and requirements with current outcomes data and language

     

    Public Contracts

    • Attend proposers’ conference as recommended and/or required by funders
    • Complete RFP/RFI application requirements
    • Manage and submit reporting requirements
    • Collaborate with MIG to track management of grant key performance indicators (KPIs)/outcomes/milestones/outputs

     

    Other Fundraising Support

    • Support the development team with research/prospecting of donors as needed
    • This position may take on additional creative writing projects, as directed.
    • Support development team with updating UFC website and disseminating e-newsletter

    • Maintain updated knowledge about United Friends’ database
    • Develop strong working relationships with program staff to understand and articulate needs and case for

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Have a bachelor’s degree and at least one year of relevant professional experience;
    • Have exceptional expository writing and verbal persuasion skills, with the ability to translate complex campaigns and programs into compelling stories.
    • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities from multiple stakeholders
    • Establishes and cultivates respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, including colleagues, customers, and donors

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Commitment to excellent customer service
    • Experience working with non-profit donors, including boards of directors
    • Experience with web-based relational databases in a non-profit setting
    • Curiosity about data analysis, data engagement, and program development
United Friends currently implements a hybrid work environment, whereas, our staff’s residence is their primary place of work. This position will work part-time hours, Monday-Friday and report to the downtown office, as needed.
