Assistant Manager, Scholars Program

Full-time, Exempt

Reporting to the Manager, the Assistant Manager provides leadership and support in planning and executing workshops, events, and special projects. In addition, the Assistant Manager carries a caseload of college scholars. The ideal candidate is passionate about direct services and program execution and works as an excellent problem-solver who is able to proactively support the development of peers through effective lateral management and peer-to-peer coaching.

 

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

    Case Management

    • Maintain consistent and frequent communication with up to 35 students via phone, video-conferencing, email, and in person to uphold the relationship-based model.
    • Provide quality, timely educational case management for designated caseload utilizing UFC’s database to document efforts made on behalf of youth.
    • Monitor and support students’ academic progress to ensure their eligibility to earn an Associate’s Degree, transfer to a Bachelor’s Degree Granting Institution, and or earn their Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Support students’ career development so that upon graduation they are able to secure a job, paid internship,
    • Connect students with campus and community based support services.

     

    Staff Development and Management

    • Support the on-boarding and training of counseling staff.
    • Support Manager with planning and executing staff retreats.

     

    Special Projects and Events

    • Assist and lead with implementation of workshops and events.
    • Support the execution of the Youth Advisory Council.
    • Support the planning and execution of special events and projects.

     

    Partnership Cultivation and Support

    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with academic, enrichment and career-focused agencies to facilitate high quality and cost-effective opportunities for students.
    • Coordinate tutoring support services.
    • Cultivate relationships with and serve as a liaison/advocate among community partners to increase awareness of the needs of foster youth and to ensure students’ success.

     

    Program Evaluation & Data Integrity

    • Support College Counselors’ data entry process in order to ensure timeliness and data integrity.
    • Utilize ETO reports and program dashboards to effectively track progress toward goal completion and mobilize counselors’ efforts to meet grade level objectives.

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • 4+ Years of relevant experience, including 2+ years of case management experience
    • Demonstrated experience working with college students
    • Establishes and cultivates respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
    • Balances multiple competing priorities effectively in a demanding, fast-paced work environment
    • Takes initiative and works well independently and collaboratively
    • Leads self and others to meet high expectations consistently
    • Conveys thoughts and ideas clearly, listens well, communicates in a solution-oriented manner and incorporates others’ views into work

    • An understanding of and sensitivity to issues concerning current and former foster youth
    • Has a reliable personal automobile
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree in related field
    • Demonstrated leadership experience
From Monday-Friday, the Assistant Manager will work from the downtown UFC office and will travel to various locations throughout Los Angeles County to provide onsite visits to foster youth as needed. The Assistant Manager will need to work the occasional Saturday from various workshop/event locations throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
