Community Impact Coordinator

Full-time, Exempt

Starting as early as the 6th grade and following students through college graduation, UFC’s Education Program forges trusting relationships with youth in foster care as they navigate some of life’s most pivotal moments. UFC’s Education Program is committed to encouraging and supporting youth in earning both their high school and college degrees. United Friends’ programs focus on commitment, trauma-informed care, and youth empowerment by prioritizing the whole-person-development of youth in care through a Social Justice Positive Youth Development (SJPYD) approach, while building relationships with the youth over an extended period.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Impact, the Community Impact Coordinator designs and implements key programmatic components including youth workshops, service learning, and special events that support the personal development of our youth and the Program’s commitment to fostering a college-going mindset.

  • Duties and responsibilities:

    Content Development
    ● Development engaging and interactive workshop and event curriculum for youth participants in grades 6 through college. Workshops and events should promote confidence and competence building, academic success, skill development, and social emotional learning.
    ● Build safe and collaborative spaces within workshops/events for fostering community and relationship building between peers and with UFC staff members.
    ● Integrate positive youth development, social justice and trauma informed approach into the developed workshops and events.
    ● Create various digital media such as PowerPoint presentations, promotional flyers for events, social
    media posts, and other stylistic content that is provided to staff and students.

    Experiential Learning and Engagement Support
    ● Research and connect with service learning, summer enrichment and other student focused opportunities that align with program goals and fiscal budgets.
    ● Support students in accessing service learning and enrichment opportunities that help achieve established grade-level priorities and desired outcomes.

    Staff Development and Management
    ● Continually expand and update professional and technical knowledge within the education, foster care, social emotional learning, youth development, social justice, and case management fields.
    ● Develop and lead trainings to support UFC College Counselors in their workshop facilitation, student engagement practices.
    ● Conduct regular observation and assess workshop facilitation (typically on Saturday mornings) to support skill building among counseling team, and assess the effectiveness and success of workshops and events.
    ● Work with Community Impact Manager in facilitating meetings and providing communications, such as email updates, meeting minutes.
    ● Work with Community Impact Manager to develop meeting agendas and project meetings assigned.

    Program Implementation and Development
    ● Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of special events (e.g., Annual Career Day, College Within Reach, student retreats).
    ● Ensure workshop/event locations, materials and digital logistics are secured in a timely manner.
    ● Ensure staff are prepared to facilitate the workshop and event content.
    ● Manage with transportation requests for the education department regarding workshops and events.
    ● Assist with workshop specific materials purchases, storage, delivery, and tracking.

    Program Evaluation
    ● Work with Community Impact Manager and Systems Design and Evaluation Coordinator to create and implement evaluation tools that measure workshop/event impact on students.
    ● Work with Community Impact Manager and Systems Design and Evaluation Coordinator to coordinate large-scale evaluation assessments.
    ● Analyze workshop outcomes and trends and work with Education team to improve program model and service delivery.

  • Required Qualifications:

    ● Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
    ● 3 or more years of curriculum development experience
    ● Demonstrated experience working effectively with middle and/or high school students
    ● Demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieve desired impact.
    ● Balances multiple competing priorities
    ● Establishes and cultivates respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
    ● Holds self accountable, sets high expectations for self and others, works both independently and collaboratively and relates tasks to organizational values
    ● Conveys thoughts and ideas clearly, listens well, communicates in a solution-orientated manner and incorporates others’ views into work
    ● Has a reliable personal automobile

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    ● Master’s Degree in a related field
    ● Digital media and content development experience
    ● Knowledgeable of PowerPoint, Excel, Canva, Adobe etc.
    ● Video and photo editing software

United Friends currently implements a hybrid work environment – schedule is determined at the discretion of management and the needs of the program and/or agency. This position will work full-time hours, Tuesday-Saturday. The Community Impact Coordinator will travel to various locations throughout the Los Angeles metro area to meet with community partners, and occasionally to the main office in Downtown LA. Saturdays, the Community Impact Coordinator will attend virtual or in-person workshop/events. In-person workshops/events will be held in in the greater Los Angeles area. Some evening and overnight work is required.
