Housing & Property Manager

Housing Programs, Full-time

UFC is seeking a collaborative, detail-oriented, and thoughtful Housing and Property Manager (HPM) who will oversee the operations and maintenance of UFC’s residential properties and provide housing guidance, information, and resources to program participants and staff members. Reporting to the Director of Housing Programs, the HPM will work Monday-Friday and weekends and evenings as necessary.  The HPM will be based out of UFC’s downtown office and will engage in travel throughout the week to UFC’s housing sites and other locations within Los Angeles County.

  • Responsibilities/Duties:

    Property Management

    • Oversee the operation and maintenance of UFC’s residential properties in accordance with required legal and quality standards
    • Act as the liaison to property management company(s) that serve UFC properties
    • Regularly assess the condition of the properties and communicate effectively regarding property needs and resident concerns
    • Facilitate the processing of permanent housing applications for youth
    • Prepare UFC residential properties for stakeholder site visits and/or inspection.

    Management and Coaching

    • Lead, coach, and develop the Property Management and Housing Coordinator (PMHC) and support the professional development of the entire Housing Department team
    • Direct the quarterly apartment inspection process, ensuring the successful resolution of resident compliance issues in a sensitive and timely manner
    • Manage strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of UFC regarding housing policy concerns and affordable housing resources
    • Provide regular training sessions for program participants and the Housing team about housing application and rental processes
    • Ensure proper utilization of food bank process

    Administrative

    • Coordinate a data management process that ensures timeliness and integrity of relevant housing information collection including new resident documentation, housing policy violations, inspection records, and rental payments
    • Regularly review and share relevant housing and property management data to evaluate effectiveness
    • Maintain a current handbook of UFC’s housing and property management procedures
    • Manage the official record of resident assignments and entry/exit reporting
    • Oversee the maintenance and expansion of a resource list of housing options for exiting youth

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Minimum five years of experience in property management or related field, specifically related to leasing and apartment acquisition.
    • Working knowledge of Fair Housing Laws and experience with Section 8 and other government funding sources including HUD, LAHSA, and Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC) requirements
    • Conveys thoughts and ideas clearly, listens well, communicates in a solution-oriented manner and incorporates others’ views into work
    • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to balance multiple competing priorities
    • Strong problem-solving and crisis intervention skills
    • Ability to advocate for youth regarding their housing needs
    • Holds self accountable, sets high expectations for self and others, works both independently and collaboratively and relates tasks to organizational values
    • Ability to establish and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
    • An understanding of and sensitivity to issues concerning former foster care youth
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook applications

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Property Management certification (e.g., CMCA, RMP, CPM)
    • Master’s Degree in a related field
    • Experience working in a non-profit setting
