Outreach and Engagement Manager

Full-time, Exempt

Starting as early as the 7th grade and following students through college graduation, the Scholars Program forges trusting relationships with youth as they navigate some of life’s most pivotal moments. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Outreach + Engagement Manager will oversee the Outreach + Engagement Team in supporting youth entering the program. Additionally, the Outreach + Engagement Manager will build and maintain important partnerships with community stakeholders to increase the organization’s capacity and ability to provide high-quality services.

  • Duties and Responsibilities :

    Outreach and Engagement

    • Refine and manage the enrollment process to ensure the organization’s service goals are met on an annual basis.
    • Develop marketing approach to generate interest in the Scholars Program.
    • Engage with incoming and current scholars using an engaging, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach.
    • Assist Scholars Program Coordinator with supporting the scholars’ journey into the program including confirming eligibility, collecting necessary paperwork, engaging with families directly, completing enrollment documentation, and consulting with Education Leadership Team, as needed.
    • Make presentations to social workers, attorneys, youth, non-profit organizations, counselors and resource parents at various group meetings in order to recruit over 200 students per year to the Scholars Program across three entry points.
    • Develop a vast network of programs to refer students as needed.

     

    Management and Coaching

    • Partner with the Education Leadership Team to create and uphold policies and protocols that support the program’s mission and goals.
    • Lead, coach, and develop the Scholars Program Coordinator and support the professional development of the Education Department Team; hold regular individual meetings with direct report(s) to assess and support progress toward goals.
    • Partner with Education Leadership Team to plan annual budget and monitor expenditures to ensure alignment with projected spending as needed.
    • Be a positive force for change and provide support for staff to be their best and do their best work.
    • Continually expand and update professional and technical knowledge within the education, foster care, management, and customer service fields.

     

    Outreach and Partnerships

    • Oversee the development of outreach opportunities and relationships with collateral partners. Conduct outreach to collaborative agencies, referring partners, ILP programs, local college campus’ and other target areas to identify and recruit eligible program participants.
    • Develop MOUs with community partners to generate Scholars Program referrals.
    • Act as a main point of contact for United Friends’ Scholars Program engaging all inquiring youth and referring agencies with professionalism, empathy, and respect.

     

    Program Development

    • Guide the onboarding process for the Scholars Program’s three entry points: middle school, rising 11th grade, community college entry point.
    • Plan and execute program orientations and other events to welcome new scholars to the program.

     

    Program Evaluation

    • Analyze departmental outcomes and work with Education Leadership Team to enhance program model.
    • Support direct reports’ data entry process in order to ensure timeliness and data integrity.

  • Required Qualifications :
    • BA degree in a related field
    • 2+ years of direct management experience
    • 1+ years of case management experience
    • Strong presentation skills.
    • Establishes and cultivates respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
    • Demonstrated experience supporting young adults in pursuit of their goals
    • Manages complex projects and balances multiple competing priorities with strong attention to detail
    • Holds self and others accountable to high expectations, works well both independently and collaboratively and relates tasks to organizational values and vision
    • Conveys thoughts and ideas clearly, listens well, communicates in a solution-oriented manner and incorporates others’ views into work.
    • Passionate about United Friends’ mission
    • An understanding of and sensitivity to issues concerning current and former foster youth
    • Must have valid California Driver License and an insured and reliable vehicle
  • Preferred Qualifications :
    • Oral and written fluency in Spanish
    • Master’s Degree in a related field
    • Experience working from a trauma-informed and resiliency-oriented lens
The Outreach + Engagement Manager will work standard business hours Monday-Friday out of United Friends’ Downtown office and potentially from other site locations, as well as, at outreach opportunities across Los Angeles County including the Antelope Valley. Occasional weekend and evening work are required for outreach efforts and special events throughout the year as needed.
