Senior Development Coordinator

Full-time, Non-Exempt

United Friends of the Children empowers current and former foster youth on their journey to self-sufficiency through service-enriched education and housing programs, advocacy, and consistent relationships with a community of people who care.

 

Founded over 40 years ago, United Friends’ is a leading provider of youth development services to current and former foster youth in Los Angeles County. Through its housing and education programs, the organization has helped thousands of young people imagine and actualize their own dreams and futures. All programs are grounded in a relational model. At United Friends, youth build long-lasting, developmental relationships between young people and caring adults, as well as connections to nourishing peer and community support systems. Around those relationships, United Friends wraps an array of supportive services to help youth successfully transition to adulthood. Operating 11 housing sites around the county, United Friends’ housing program provides current and former foster youth with a stable place to live and targeted services that promote their long-term economic stability and wellness. Serving students from the sixth grade through college competition, United Friends’ education program reverses abysmal educational outcomes for foster youth by ensuring they graduate from high school and college. As a result of services, United Friends alumni have greater housing and economic stability, higher educational attainment and a stronger sense of community and emotional wellbeing.

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

     Events

    • Provide coordination support to event consultants and the Development Director in all aspects of planning, organizing, vendor management and executing United Friends’ annual fundraising gala, NextGen’s annual Trivia event, as well as other periodic fundraisers.
    • Coordinate planning of various volunteer-supported events, including annual youth holiday parties and youth graduations.
    • Support Director of Development with corporate employee engagement opportunities, such as lunch and learn events and similar programming.

     

     Individual Giving & Donor Engagement:

    • Support Sr. Development Manager in developing and executing annual giving campaigns, prioritizing strategies for increasing the number and size of gifts from mass donors <$5000
    • Support data integrity of Salesforce data base by helping maintain database protocols and guidelines; ensuring mass donor information, such as giving history and engagement activity, is current and accurate.
    • Work with Sr. Development Manager on strategies to re-engage lapsed donors.
    • Support the Director of Development in managing the NextGen board, by coordinating NextGen activities and providing scheduling and administrative support to board.
    • Support donors’ and corporate partners’ volunteer engagement by coordinating activities, communications, and trainings.
    • Build donor target lists for events and campaigns as needed.

     

     Communications:

    • Support development team and communications consultants in producing written and digital communications material and keeping website current.
    • Assist in maintaining department calendars related to annual development campaigns, communications, social media, and digital marketing.

     

     Other Fundraising Support:

    • Coordinate all in-kind donations, manage logistics, processing, and impact reporting.
    • Prepare and send donor communications, including gift acknowledgment letters, in-kind donation letters, personalized thank you cards, and honorarium donations.
    • Help maintain accurate donor records by updating donor information and promptly inputting donations, acknowledgements, and tax receipts into donor database.
    • Coordinate and participate in development team meetings and special committee meetings as assigned

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Passionate about United Friends’ mission and commitment to young people in foster
    • Minimum 2+ years of related experience in non-profit fundraising, including coordinating development events.
    • Prior experience with donor databases
    • Experience working with non-profit
    • Excellent writing and communication skills.
    • Organized and highly attentive to work
    • Track record of handling confidential donor information with sensitivity and integrity.
    • Ability to successfully manage the completion of multiple projects simultaneously, often with shifting priorities, while working under direct supervision or independently.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively work as part of a team.
    • Conveys thoughts and ideas clearly, listens well, communicates in a solution-oriented manner.
    • Takes initiative and works well independently and collaboratively.
    • Establishes and cultivates respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, including colleagues, and donors.
    • Demonstrates competency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with Salesforce database operations.
    • Competency in design programs In Design, Illustrator, Canva or Photoshop.
    • Curiosity about data analysis, data engagement, and program.
United Friends currently implements a hybrid work environment, whereas our staff’s residence is their primary place of work. This position will work full-time hours, Monday-Friday, and report to the downtown office, as needed. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
