My name is Joi Pinney and I am eager to start my journey with UFC, as a College Counselor. I have always been passionate about being of service, especially when it comes to children and youth. My passion has led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Sociology from Cal State Northridge in 2007. Since that time, I’ve worked with children, youth and even adults in various capacities. I was an instructional assistant for Westside Union School District for a year. I worked in a Special Day Class, with children who have disabilities Moderate to Severe), as well as in a 3rd and 4th grade combination class. I later worked with the Department of Children and Family services for 5 years, as a Children’s social worker. This was my most challenging role, but I obtained the most growth in this position. My last position, was with NLACRC, as a Consumer Services Coordinator. In that role, I worked with adults with developmental disabilities (Mild to Severe). This position really strengthened my advocacy skills, gave me a lot of insight with regards to mental health and allowed me to better build community connections.

I feel that all of my jobs have led me to UFC and ultimately back to working with children and youth. I feel encouraged knowing that I will be instrumental in helping provide this population with direction and helping them establish goals for their future. Youth have so much untapped potential and the right person can help bring that out. When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, going to concert/ live events, trying new restaurants and spending time with my friends and family.
