While in high school, Sherrie felt defeated because she saw many of her classmates transitioning into their dream universities. Not academically eligible for a university, she decided to take the transfer path. Demonstrating persistence at Los Angeles Southwest Community College, Sherrie became a competitive applicant for UCLA.
The transition to UCLA proved challenging as she had to figure out housing needs, clear financial aid for school fees, and adjust to the academic rigor. Nevertheless, Sherrie persisted with support from her community and networks. Now, she proudly joins the Class of 2023 graduates from UCLA with honors and a degree in Education and Social Transformation. Witnessing Sherrie’s growth and determination to succeed has been an honor.
