The community at United Friends sends our collective thoughts and prayers to the family of George Floyd. We are also thinking of the families of Ma’Khia Bryant, Daunte Wright, Adam Toledo, and the countless other precious Black and Brown children, women, and men who have lost their lives at the hands of law enforcement.

In a system that historically has not held police officers accountable for the murder of Black and Latinx individuals, we breathed a collective sigh of relief yesterday that the jury held Derek Chauvin accountable for the murder of George Floyd. However, we still have a long fight ahead of us. Our hope is that this is the beginning of a change in a long standing racially biased criminal justice system.

As an organization, we are more committed than ever to bringing an equity lens to our work and to supporting the forward movement of dismantling racism within the child welfare, education, and homelessness systems.
